Has Mystagogy Come into Its Own?

  1. I see this as directly related to “putting on the mind of Christ” and of that higher mind connoted by “metanoia.” As I see it, it’s part of the sight given to the man born blind: the ability to see the sacred and then to share it with others. If it’s true that the world fairly shimmers with the glory of God, then mystagogy is one way to see and share that shimmer! Thanks for a hopeful insight.

  2. Hi Rita. It is pretty amazing that “mystagogy” has become so much a part of the common vocabulary of Catholics. I remember a speaker at a conference years ago saying that if the RCIA was ever going to catch on with ordinary folks, we had to stop using words like mystagogy. His point was it would just confuse people.

Apparently Germans are less prone to confusion!
