  1. Thank you for posting this article, because it is so desperately needed… for both catechists and candidates. When it comes to the RCIA, there is no such thing as a “one size fits all” approach. It is unfortunate that there are still so many parishes out there using some kind of fixed schedule instead of an individualized approach. God meets us where we’re at. Our Adult Formation programs need to do the same!

Thanks for reminding us that RCIA is a journey of faith. Like all journeys some may crawl, some walk and others may run. As cathecists we guide each at their own pace. Putting time lines restricts the benefit of the process and also the mindset of the individual.

  3. To continue with the “journey” analogy, not only do people move at different paces, they also begin from different places, as your article describes. So when considering different paces and different places, it reinforces the approach of focusing on where people are at and attending to their preferred pace as well.

  4. Great and timely article. I expect it to be very helpful in presenting “the causing for an on-going process.

    God bless !

There used to be an old joke going around about working for the government. The theory was that a job would take as long to do as was allowed for the job, in the planning. In other words, a ten minute job would actually take an hour if an hour had been allotted for it.

Maybe we should be looking at what we would like the people to know, when they are accepted into the church, rather than trying to fill a year or two years of time, before acceptance into the church.
