Have we actually tried the RCIA?

  1. This article is exactly the way i try to involve my Adult Sacrament people (those who have been baptized but have not receive all the Sacraments) Even though i know that all do not see it that way. We (my fellow team member) try to impart to those learners what being a Catholic is all about, serving, being part of a larger community and all the rest of what being a Catholic is. Some get it and some don’t just like our larger parish. We still must strive to show all that part of our faith, the Body of Christ. Thank you for putting it so beautifully in this article. Peace be with you

One thing that I am experimenting in my Campus Ministry office is that a representative from each “program” reaches out to our catechumens and invite them to events, or just says “hi”. This has been met with a positive response from both my colleagues and student leaders to see that the RCIA is not just in my area, but is really everyone’s area to support.

Typically, the response from our catechumens is “yes, but….” and that but is usually “…I have class” or “….I’m busy…” or “I have another commitment.” It is my hope that our leaders see themselves as ministers of hospitality who are present and that our catechumens see that what they are embarking on is a community-centered process and not just wholly individual.
