Is the fear of being wrong controlling your RCIA?

  1. “What I am actually saying is that the seekers in Marcy’s “class” never heard the objective truths of the faith — if by “heard” we mean “made a difference in their lives.”
    Absolutely!
    The candidates in Marcy’s class have not seen the doctrines in action. Every doctrine appeals to a human need. When presenting a doctrine the Catechist must ask themselves two questions;
    How has this doctrine effected my life?
    How can this doctrine effect my candidates life?
    The Catechist must make the doctrine come alive by their witness. For example, I say I live my life between two Masses. I share this most intimate moment with Jesus especially receiving Him in communion as deeply personal and giving me the strength to face the trials and tribulations until our next meeting (communion).

    We use Jerry Galipeau’s Apprenticed to Christ for ideas on how to help our friends experience the faith of our parish. In our end of year survey, our neophytes consistently say accompanying our Extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist to visit the homebound or assisted living homes is the most meaningful experience of the year. They learn more about the meaning, power and mystery of Eucharist on this field trip than anything I could ever say in class.
