I joined TeamRCIA after your free webinar last week. I knew of your work and have read a number of your books. I’m a paid coordinator at my parish and leading RCIA is one of my favorite responsibilities. The resources you and your team put out are amazing, and I’m excited to learn more about this incredible ministry.

Can we make mystagogy less stressful
and less confusing?
One of the most stressful and confusing periods of the catechumenate for RCIA teams is the period of mystagogy. But there is good news. If we truly understand what the church means by “mystagogy,” our job gets a lot easier.
Don’t miss this essential training. What you learn will change the way you think about catechumenate formation.

Why is mystagogy important?
Mystagogy is our best form of catechesis. It is not limited solely to the Period of Postbaptismal Catechesis and Mystagogy. We start seekers on their mystagogical journey as soon as our first encounter with them.
What does the church mean by “mystagogy”?
Pope Benedict XVI laid out for us the basic mystagogical itinerary. This is a journey of encounter with the Mystery of Christ that begins with the initiation process and extends throughout our lives as disciples. Mystagogy is first a remembering of what God has done. It is next a reflection on the present encounter with Christ—what is the meaning of what is happening right now? And finally, it is a “so what?” How will life be different because of our encounter with the mystery?
How do we catechize mystagogically?
While mystagogy is fundamentally a liturgical catechesis, the techniques of mystagogical formation can be applied to any encounter with the mystery of Christ.
In this training, we will explore the basic six-step process for mystagogical catechesis.
How will our communities be renewed?
Fourth-century mystagogue St. Ambrose of Milan said that the goal of mystagogy is the formation of Christian disciples rather than providing religious information to Christians. Pope Benedict XVI said that mystagogical formation will enable us to live what we celebrate.
If our parishes can become mystagogical communities, we will make the whole world know of the mystery of God’s love.
After a few years of gleaning ideas and inspiration from your books and your free content, it occurred to me that my experience could be greater with a full commitment to TeamRCIA membership. I have been involved in Initiation ministry for most of the last twenty-five years, making mistakes and misinterpreting the ritual text, but learning and growing during this long journey. I joined TeamRCIA to be my partners in ministry. Thank you for this opportunity to grow in both my faith and ministry.
